Raised in Lindenthal – a place to grow and feel good

The story of rainbowtrekkers began here – right in Lindenthal, on Dürener Straße.

In our main house, children find a place where they can grow, explore, and discover the world. Hidden in the green inner courtyard, opposite the city forest, they experience both security and diversity – accompanied by a team that shapes each day anew with heart and experience.

Are you looking for a loving place for your child in the middle of the city – with space to play, discover, and grow?

Our daycare center in Lindenthal combines the best of two worlds: urban daily life with a feeling of closeness and nature.

We value a calm, mindful atmosphere where children find security and at the same time the freedom to go their own way. Fixed routines provide orientation, open ears and hearts create trust.

Thus, every day becomes a small adventure that begins with reliability and ends with new discoveries.

Large Outdoor Area – in the middle of the city

Almost 1,000 square meters of garden with trees, beds, and climbing frames invite daily for playing, exploring, and relaxing. Here, digging, planting, and harvesting take place – often together with parents.

Small Facility with a Family-like Character

With two groups and around 30 children, our kita is manageable and personal. Every child is individually perceived and experiences a familiar, warm community.

Parents' Café & Family Center

Right in the entrance area, our Parents’ Café invites you to arrive, exchange ideas, and network. It is part of our Family Center, which creates offers for the whole family – from parents’ cafés to weekend activities.

Discover our rooms in an interactive 360° tour! Get a first impression of our daycare center and our individual group rooms – almost as if you were already there.

A clear daily rhythm gives children security and creates space for all the small and big discoveries of everyday life. For a successful start to the day together, we ask all parents to bring their children to the daycare center by 9:30 AM – then the morning circle can begin undisturbed.

Costs & Contributions

At rainbowtrekkers, we place great importance on transparency – also regarding costs. The care for your child is largely publicly funded, and a portion of the contributions depends on your income. With your membership in the support association, you also help us ensure our high quality standards, fair working conditions, and special offers for all children.

The amount of parent contributions is determined by the Youth Welfare Office of your place of residence. It depends on your income and the number of children in your family. For families residing in Cologne, the Youth Welfare Office of the City of Cologne is responsible; outside Cologne, it’s the respective local Youth Welfare Office. You will receive the notification about the contribution amount directly from them.

Our daycare centers are only partially publicly funded. Government funds alone are not sufficient to secure our quality level in the long term. Our budget is legally defined and is composed as follows: 92.2% public funding + 7.8% own contribution (support association, donations). Therefore, we ask all parents to become members of the support association “Early Childhood Education in Daycare e.V.”.

Your advantages:

  • Your contribution flows 100% directly into your child’s daycare center.
  • You support fair working conditions, good equipment, and special projects.

Monthly Support Contributions:

  • €25 for families receiving basic social security benefits (SGB II)
  • €195 regular
  • From an annual income of €100,000: freely selectable, minimum €195

For your child’s meals, we charge a monthly meal fee of €75. Families with low income can apply for a reduction to €1 per lunch through the Education and Participation Package.

Rainbowtrekkers is a non-profit, independent organization – no corporation, no church. We finance our work exclusively through public grants and your contributions. Unlike large welfare associations, we have no additional sources of income such as church tax or foundation funds.

With your support, you help us continue to do what is dear to our hearts: to offer children a loving, safe, and inspiring place to grow.

Tiffany Garcia

Head of rainbowtrekkers Lindenthal

I am Tiffany Garcia and have been leading our kindergarten in Lindenthal since March 2023. I originally come from California and have been living in Germany since 2016. Even then, I had the opportunity to be involved in setting up our daycare center in Widdersdorf – later my path led me to Junkersdorf and finally here to Lindenthal.

I have been working in the education sector for over 20 years and hold a Master’s degree in Early Childhood with a focus on early childhood special education. It excites me to accompany children in their development – to see them grow, learn, and discover the world with open eyes.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, watching movies, dancing, and cooking – and I love good food. I look forward to getting to know you and your child!

In our FAQ, we have summarized the most important points regarding registration, placement, and getting started.

If you would like to submit a placement request, please use our placement request form.

All places are currently taken. We maintain a waiting list and will inform you as soon as a place becomes available that matches your criteria.

That depends on several factors – for example, when you wish for childcare to begin and how a group is composed at that time.
With some advance planning and flexibility, you have better chances.

We do not offer group tours during regular opening hours to avoid disturbing the daycare routine. As soon as we can offer a suitable place for your child, we will gladly invite you for a personal meeting and a visit.

We receive many placement inquiries every week. We are currently unable to respond personally to all inquiries immediately – neither by phone nor by email – before it is clear whether a place will become available.
Your data will be placed on our waiting list. As soon as it appears that a place might be suitable, we will contact you and invite you to get acquainted.
If we can offer you a place and you are still interested, we would be happy to welcome you and your child to one of our facilities.

You pay meal fees directly to rainbowtrekkers as well as an income-dependent parent contribution to the City of Cologne. We also ask you to join our support association so that we can cover the ongoing operating costs. Further details on fees & contributions can be found here.

Since demand is often higher than available capacity, we decide according to the following criteria (in descending order of importance):

  • Siblings already attend the facility
  • Age appropriateness for the desired group
  • Balanced gender distribution
  • Alignment with our values and concepts
  • Contribution to the social or cultural diversity of the group
  • Families without an existing support network or new arrivals to the city

Children from neighboring cities or families from outside can also apply – you do not necessarily have to live in Cologne.

We do not participate in the Little-Bird procedure, but allocate our places directly via our placement request form. If you send us a placement request, you can also send five additional placement requests to daycare centers of other providers via “LittleBird” if desired.
