Ja, ich bin Caroline. Ich bin seit 2022 bei rainbowtrekkers in Widdersdorf und bin die stellvertretende Einrichtungsleitung. Das heißt, ich bin sowohl zwischen Team als auch Leitung tätig.
Also wir geben ganz viel Feedback. Oft ist es ja so, dass das positive Feedback häufig untergeht, aber für uns ist es sehr wichtig, auch immer hervorzuheben, was eine Person oder die Gruppe allgemein oder das gesamte Team gut gemeistert hat, egal ob das jetzt Elterngespräche sind oder allgemein die Elternarbeit, ob das Aktivitäten sind mit der Gruppe. Da versuchen wir wirklich immer viel positiv rückzumelden, weil das häufig einfach auf der Strecke bleibt.
Also wir sind Freunde von offener Kommunikation und auch transparenter Kommunikation und sobald wir merken, dass es eventuell irgendwo eine schwierige Situation gibt oder sich jemand nicht wohl fühlt, suchen wir auch das direkte Gespräch mit der Person. Die Teammitglieder wissen auch, dass sowohl meine Tür als auch die Tür der Leitung immer offensteht. Also da versuchen wir auch die Hemmschwelle niedrig zu halten, dass sie uns einfach immer ansprechen können bei Problemen oder Herausforderungen. Und genauso gehen wir aber auch offen auf die Teammitglieder zu. Tatsächlich versuchen wir sehr auf Augenhöhe zu arbeiten, egal welche Aufgabe die Personen hier haben bei uns in der Einrichtung, ob das in der Küche ist, ob das in der Gruppe ist oder auch wir als Leitung, ist für uns ganz wichtig. Alle haben eine wichtige Aufgabe und wir können nur als Team funktionieren und deswegen ist es uns auch ganz wichtig, auf Augenhöhe zu arbeiten. Also keine Meinung ist weniger wert, nur weil die Person vielleicht keine Leitungsposition hat.
Dass wir ein sehr offenes Miteinander haben, dadurch, dass wir international sind. Und was ich sehr genieße hier, ist einfach die Arbeit auf Augenhöhe, dass wir ein Team sind, egal welche Aufgabe wir machen, uns gegenseitig unterstützen, auch in schwierigen Zeiten und aufeinander aufpassen.
Wir haben teilweise jeden Monat ein anderes Thema in den Gruppen und ein Thema, was uns auch sehr wichtig ist, ist der International Month. Und da werden sowohl die Kinder als auch die Erzieher*innen selbst motiviert, ja einfach mehr von der Kultur zu erzählen. Die Eltern werden mit involviert, das heißt, dass es auch einen Elternnachmittag gibt. Das heißt, verschiede Gerichte können mitgebracht werden oder verschiedene Kleidungsstile gezeigt werden. Und wir machen auch meistens im Eingangsbereich aufmerksam auf einen bestimmten Feiertag von einer bestimmten Kultur. Also es sind nicht nur die deutschen Feiertage oder die deutschen Feste, sondern es sind auch Feste von anderen Kulturen, auf die wir aufmerksam machen.

Hi, my name is Dalia and I'm from Mexico and I've been working for rainbowtrekkers for two and a half years, I work in the kindergarten with the Peek-a-boos group, which is the under three group. I am the group leader there. Even if I'm there, I also help in the big group. Sometimes we are very small kindergarten and yeah, we help each other.
I think we care a lot about children as an individual, but also getting them into a group, something that I really like, I mean, I would say maybe it's a German thing, but also a rainbowtrekkers is the freedom that they get, but also, you know, setting some boundaries for them. So, it's like, be yourself. And you have options, but then, of course, always thinking about what they can actually do, depending on the age that they have.
There are so many things that we do, but to be honest, one of my favorite things is well, the parties. We have a lot of events, let's call them events, not parties, but I find it, just super charming how we, the teachers and the kids and the parents that we all come together and there's opportunity for this, you know, because sometimes it's just like, okay, work I go and then I leave, which you can also do, you know, you're free to do so, but I just really like this, creating this connection with the families, because it makes I don't know, they see you as a person and not just as someone random that's taking care of my child. And I think this creates a really nice bond.
So, if you're applying here, I would say, it does help if you can speak both German and English, but that's definitely not a requirement. Please read about German culture, if you're not from here and if you're coming from somewhere else. Again, I think I can speak for foreigners, you know, since that's my case. Read about German culture, read about the job. Make sure you understand your job description and how different can this kindergarten be from other kindergartens and do all your paperwork with time. So, take your time. I would say six months before, if you need a visa especially, so make sure you have everything done and also start looking for an apartment, because it's hard. Maybe that's the hardest part of moving to, I want to say to Cologne, but probably other parts in Germany similar, and regarding the kindergarten, there's a lot of reading to do at the beginning and a lot of understanding, but to be honest, we're here to answer your questions.
If you're in Cologne, get a bike. It's the easiest way, because you cannot trust the Deutsche Bahn. I guess, in this country you cannot trust that the train, so it's always better. And get your vitamin D because the sun seems like we don't pay for it.

Mein Name ist Yunis. Ich wohne in Köln, habe zwei Kinder, bin verheiratet, arbeite seit 2016, seit der Eröffnung der Kita hier bei Rainbow Trackers. Ja, und ich wohne ja auch selber hier in Widdersdorf, deswegen ist es sehr angenehm, auch zur Arbeit zu kommen. Da hab ich nicht so lange fahrten.
Mein typischer Tagesablauf. Also wie schon gesagt, ich hatte als Auszubildende angefangen. Inzwischen habe ich die Gruppenleitungsposition und ja, wenn ich morgens reinkomme, mache ich mein Tablet an. Ich schaue erstmal, ob Nachrichten sind von Eltern, ob die Kinder kommen oder irgendwer krank ist oder irgendwas anderes, ob es Nachrichten gibt von meiner Leitung. Dann mache ich mit meinem Team einen Blitz, kurze Info, wie der Tagesablauf sein wird, ob es irgendwelche Informationen gibt, die wichtig sind, weiterzuleiten für den Tag. Ab 10 Uhr machen wir unser Morning Circle und danach gehen wir raus. Es gibt dann Mittagessen und dann gibt es angeleitetes Spiel, was jeder von uns einmal vorbereitet haben muss für die Woche. Um 2 Uhr wird gesnackt und dann werden auch schon die ersten tatsächlich abgeholt und die meisten sind dann ab 3:30 Uhr dann abgeholt, spätestens 4:30 Uhr.
Ja, einfach offen sein, offen sein für Neues, für die Familien, die genauso unterschiedlich sind. Unvoreingenommen zu sein. Ja. Also die sollen sich ruhig trauen, wenn sie sich bewerben wollen, weil ich erlebe das hier im Team, dass auch wir Mitarbeiter uns sehr bemühen, um neue Teammitglieder. Dass wir da ja eine offene Kommunikation leben können. Einfach so gut wie es geht einen Ort zu schaffen für alle, dass man sich auch hier wohlfühlt. Und von daher würde ich das jemand ans Herz legen, der sich gerne bewerben möchte. Braucht keine Angst haben.
Die Hierarchien hier bei den rainbowtreckers, also obwohl wir Gruppenleitungen haben, stellvertretende Leitung ist sie trotzdem sehr flach, meiner Meinung nach. Also so lebe ich das jedenfalls in meinem Team aus, dass jeder natürlich seine Meinung äußern kann. Entscheidungen gemeinsam getroffen werden. Jetzt, dass das, was mich jetzt als Gruppenleitung oder meine Aufgabe unter anderem ist, wenn eine Entscheidung nicht getroffen werden kann, dass ich das dann halt mache. Aber im Endeffekt soll jeder seine Meinung sagen und mitentscheiden. Ja, und was jetzt ist, ist das wird tatsächlich, also was mal schon mal in den Raum geworfen worden ist, dass wir demnächst eventuell agil arbeiten werden, wann das anfangen soll, was das auch genau heißt und so weiter. Aber jetzt mit den Hierarchien, das ist jetzt nicht so erkennbar.
Was mir persönlich gut gefällt, ist, dass wir sehr, sehr vielfältig sind, also die Mitarbeiter an sich auch. Es ist ja rainbowtrekkers, da sind viele Farben dabei. Die Kinder sind auch sehr vielfältig, viele Familien aus unterschiedlichen Orten, sehr bunt gemischt. Und ich sehe das auch bei den Mitarbeitern und das gefällt mir persönlich, dass wir einfach bunt gemischt sind. Dadurch, dass ich selber mit Migrationshintergrund bin, ja, passe ich halt auch gut rein bei dem Regenbogen, sage ich mal.

My name is Gonzalo Martín. I'm from Spain, from the north of Spain, from a little city. The name is Santander. Beautiful city. And I studied early years education. I did my degree in my city. I made my master of education in Barcelona and then I was looking for a job. Especially abroad, because it was hard to find in Spain, so I decided to go to Poland. So, I was in Poland five years, I was quite happy, the culture really is different, but of course, then you adapt, and the culture shock is not so strong like before, and yes, after five years, I was not unhappy, but you know, I need like fresh air for myself to change something, like explore or change country.
I have been working in Poland in a Kita five years. It was international school and I was working mainly from three to six years. And now it's my first time, from last autumn, more or less, that I'm working with babies, because I'm an early year’s teacher, but I've never been before working with babies. So, I wanted to try how it's working to see the development and how they improve when they start to walk, when they start to speak. So, it's very nice level to know how they grow into the learning, how they improve their motor skills. So, I wanted to explore that level with them.
I'm super happy here. Yes, I am totally comfortable here. Not only in the Kita, but also in the culture, in the city. Just I feel like I can be myself here in the Kita. I don't need like to hide my feelings or my emotions or what I'm thinking about any educational idea or method to learn. So, just from the first moment that I entered the Kita, like the atmosphere, the ambient, it was quite comfortable and positive for me.
I think, just from one thing that I was quite happy that the settling of one child was not difficult, but she was very quite attached to me. Like, she wanted to be close to me. She was quite nervous or not comfortable to explore the group. She didn't want to play with other kids, so just close to me and step by step, I saw her to play with other kids, to sing with her, to, you know, that she feel more comfortable in the group, and then after a few months it was quite okay, I could say, and one thing that was grateful for me that later, the parents came to pick up her one day, just random day, and they told me thank you, Gonzalo, so much for that, we really appreciate you, you make a nice job, we are very happy that you are here with our child, she really like you, so all this positive feedback is quite good for me, for myself, especially to work, to mentally, because sometimes, you know, when you're working with babies is, you need to be ready and prepared mentally because sometimes it's tough day, like crying, screaming, not listening, or during nap time, it's hard to them to put them to sleep. So, all positive feedback to me, I really appreciate. So, that is a point of inflection for me to like okay, Gonzalo, you're doing nice job. They're happy with you. So, I will try to do stay my best.
So, I will speak from my side that I'm a foreigner. So, it's different than German people. So, at the beginning I'm quite happy that one important thing as a foreigner to work in Germany is like, you need to find a flat, like, I don't know, half year before, many months before, because it's very hard to find.
And my boss always supported me to find the flats. He sent me websites. Or any problem, don't worry, Gonzalo, I will find you a temporary flat you can pay less, the school can provide you some like owners of the flat, you can try them. Of course, sometimes they write in the team chat from all campuses, look, there's a new teacher somebody know about a flat that he can stay there or share apartment.
Yes, also they provide you like German courses at the beginning, so it's very good for beginners like me, like, they pay me the A1 and A2 level, I think, of German, so it's very nice.

I'm Constantina, I'm coming from Greece. I studied already in Greece, but yeah, with the situation right there, I was looking for a better job option. And that's when I heard about Germany and international schools and actually, I send myself an email to rainbowtrekkers is like, hey, I'm this person and I want to work and yeah, then Leo, the HR, she connected me right away and we had a wonderful interview and I came to Germany. I started right away with rainbowtrekkers, so it's been five years now. I'm a Fachkraft, I'm a teacher in the group.
Now I have to think. I would say that it was like, I will say it automatically because if I go back then, we had perfect parties also with the colleagues and with the kids and parents. But I think my most favorite thing was like this year I turned 30 and I can say that I didn't take it that well, but I'm growing up. But the kids and the colleagues were so nice that they made it so like extra nice for me, that I really loved it, that I, got to celebrate with them here in the Kita. I think that was my top moment. Like they made it more beautiful. Like they made me realize that: "Hey, you know, we appreciate you. We're happy you're here and getting old with us.
First of all, I came here not speaking in German, so I think it's really important for me to mention that I had the ability to get, like money for German classes, so this was really helpful. And of course, professionally to do like seminars about anything that would interest me. We have the first aid seminar that we had that, also important. So, in generally I would say that my institutional leader guided me very much also my group leaders and the colleagues too. They would share knowledge about seminars and there's always information laying around in the rooms. So, I would say they gave me a lot of opportunities to grow professionally.
Yeah, first of all to bring my culture, to bring food, to accept me, of course, as I am. I don't know how to explain it better, but just, I don't know, the freedom that I was free to be me and to speak my mind and to also get respect for my educational background. Everyday things like we can greet each other in other languages or the kids get to learn like we count in different languages. We say good morning, hi and stuff like these kids get to bring also food from their homeland. For example, when they celebrate birthdays and also the family center organizes a lot of activities that support the multicultural background of the rainbowtrekkers. And of course, us, the teachers being all from different places. So, I would say multicultural is like always there with us every day in the smallest parts also to the biggest.
This is, I would say the primary reason I stayed in rainbowtrekkers is that I came and I found a family. But also, people that, you know, came after me. I would say that: Yeah, of course, Kita promotes us to do stuff like we have our team days and as I said, in the morning we arrive, we always like catch up a little bit, we work all together as one, we have our team meetings, so we get to spend also time with teachers that work in other groups, not just only mine. So, I would say that we're all pretty close. And yeah, of course we have the parties of the company, but we personally don't stay only at that. We meet also afterwards. Sometimes after meetings, we stay even longer just to catch up as friends. So yeah, we're really close as a team, I would say, yeah, family. It's my second family. I don't have a family here, but I feel like I have one in the Kita.

Ich bin die Leonie Schafrinna. Ich bin seit 2019 Personalleitung bei rainbowtrekkers und bin von A bis Z eigentlich für alles zuständig. Bin mehr oder weniger so eine One-Woman-Show hier, was die Personalabteilung angeht. Habe jetzt seit Neuestem wieder Unterstützung nur durch eine Assistentin auf Minijob-Basis, aber ansonsten kann man mich vom Recruiting-Prozess bis zum Ende sozusagen bei seiner Karriere bei rainbowtrekkers miterleben und mit mir in Kontakt treten.
Wenn sich bei uns jemand bei rainbowtrekkers bewirbt, wird die Bewerbung sehr zeitnah innerhalb von zwei Tagen angesehen und auf die inhaltlichen Kriterien überprüft. Dann gehen wir direkt ins Interview rein. Das Interview erfolgt erstmal mit mir als Personalleitung. Entweder machen wir das digital, wenn es vor allem jemand ist, der halt nicht vor Ort lebt, bevorzugt treffe ich die Menschen natürlich aber auch einfach persönlich, um da ein besseres Gespür füreinander zu bekommen. Im Bewerbungsgespräch selber thematisieren wir hauptsächlich organisatorische Frameworks-Themen und entscheiden dann auch natürlich, nachdem wir über das Gehalt etc. gesprochen haben, ob der nächste Schritt für beide Seiten Sinn macht. Der nächste Schritt wäre dann in dem Fall ein zweites Interview. Das ist dann mit der Einrichtungsleitung in der jeweiligen Kita auch wieder entweder digital oder vor Ort möglich. Im besten Fall ermöglichen wir den Bewerbenden da natürlich schon, dass sie einfach sich auch die Einrichtung vor Ort angucken. Und danach wird dann die Entscheidung getroffen, hü oder hopp, und dann kann es auch zeitnah danach direkt losgehen.
Zur Einstellung bei rainbowtrekkers ist es erstmal wichtig, dass man entweder in Deutsch oder in Englisch mindestens B2-Niveau nachweisen kann. Für die jeweils andere Sprache hat man dann aber massig Zeit, das auch einfach nachzuholen. Von unserer Seite unterstützen wir die Beschäftigten eben durch den Ersatz von den Kosten, die durch die Sprachkurse entstehen bis zu einem gewissen Budget und wenn das dann erreicht ist, also sowohl in Deutsch und auch in Englisch B2 mindestens nachgewiesen werden kann, spiegelt sich das auch nochmal in der Vergütungsstruktur wieder. Das ist so ein bisschen der Motivationsfaktor dahinter nochmal, den man vielleicht manchmal braucht.
Wir haben ja bei rainbowtrekkers die Fachkraft-Policy, das heißt, wir arbeiten eben wirklich rein nur mit Fachkräften zusammen, was einfach unser pädagogisches Angebot und auch die Fähigkeit, intern sich abzustimmen und Diskussionen auf einem hohen Level zu führen, enorm verbessert hat in den letzten Jahren. Über diesen Schritt sind wir sehr froh, gleichzeitig ist es natürlich auch von großem Wert, wenn eben Menschen mal abgesehen davon, dass sie jetzt vielleicht noch nicht direkt auf B2 in beidem Englisch und Deutsch sind, aber dass sie trotzdem so eine gewisse Flexibilität mitbringen, damit umzugehen, dass sie sich natürlich in einem Umfeld bewegen, wo sie sich vielleicht sprachlich manchmal nicht ganz so verständigen können, wie sie es erstmal wollen würden und wo sie natürlich auch mit ganz vielen Kulturen konfrontiert sind, mit denen sie vielleicht davor auch noch nicht so viele Berührungspunkte hatten. Und da brauchen wir definitiv das Open Mind dafür, damit das hier so funktionieren kann. Und ich würde mir auch immer noch mehr wünschen, dass Pädagogen es schaffen, sich gegenseitig einfach ganz aufrichtig auch Feedback zu geben. Das habe ich beobachtet in den letzten Jahren, dass das manchmal schwierig ist und da versuche ich eben alle, die hier sind und neu dazu kommen, auch dabei zu unterstützen, das zu tun.
Insgesamt sind wir in der glücklichen Lage, dass wir wirklich übermäßig viel Urlaubstage vergeben können. Der Anspruch steigt auch mit den Jahren, die man bei rainbowtrekkers ist. Nichtsdestotrotz hat uns vor ja, letztes Jahr muss das gewesen sein, mehrfach die Anfrage von Mitarbeitenden erreicht, dass die Flexibilität einfach zu gering ist, weil die dann, wenn die ihre Familien in Brasilien oder sonst wo haben, da nicht in der High Season, wenn wir halt in der Sommerferienzeit die Kita zu haben, sich Tickets buchen können. Und nach ein paar Schleifen, die wir gedreht haben, sind wir zu dem Ergebnis gekommen, dass wir zukünftig eben auch unsere eigenen rainbowtrekkers interne Mitarbeiter beim Summer Camp mitarbeiten lassen, sodass die sich einfach nochmal ein paar Tage aufsparen können die sie an einer anderen Stelle des Jahres benutzen können. Und soweit ich das sehe, soweit ich auch Feedback von den Mitarbeitenden bekommen habe, ist das eine ganz gute Lösung, wird gut angenommen und da werden wir allen Seiten gerecht.
